Frederick Forward

Frederick Forward is a community organization designed to promote economic development and poverty reduction in the Frederick area. The organization has several committees that work toward the organizations goals. They meet regularly on the third Monday of the month at Nick's, the former Frederick Lounge. The organization is managed by a board of directors and annually elected officers. There is no official membership, as anyone interested in the goals of the organization are welcome and encouraged to come to the meetings at any time or serve on any of the Frederick Forward committees. Frederick was fortunate to participate in the Horizon's II program from the fall of 2006 through the summer of 2008. This program, designed to reduce poverty and create leadership provided a significant shot in the arm for the community. People are now seeing a brighter tomorrow and taking more responsibility for the community's future.

Some of the projects that have developed from the Horizon's program are:

Clean-up and renovation of Simmons Park
Purchase of 20 foot wide inflatable theater, Wii game entertainment center and sound system for outdoor/indoor movies and local entertainment in Frederick
Plans generated and embraced for the redevelopment of the old auditorium
Leadership training for local residents
Fund raising events and awareness for poverty reduction and service
Frederick lounge clean-up and preparation for future occupancy
Frederick Finn Fest, an annual celebration based on the founding heritage of Frederick's early residents.

Frederick Forward Committees:

Business & housing development - attracting businesses, sustaining existing business and adding housing
Inflatable theater - organizing summer movies, promotion & maintenance of system rental
Finn Fest - annual celebration in June each year
Marketing - promoting the Frederick Community and its events and activities
Simmons Park - beautification, maintenance &
Secret Garden - redeveloping the old auditorium into a open air theater/garden maintaining walls and structure for concessions, stage, and over-all historic value
Helping Hand/Welcome Wagon - creating and maintaining events and activities to help those in need and to welcome newcomers into the community
